Coingecko lets you set a price target and choose how often an alert repeats

Coingecko price alerts notify you when a selected cryptocurrency reaches your chosen price threshold. Open the coin’s alert control and enter a custom target or choose a preset percentage. In the mobile app, select Once or Recurring to control repetition. Check the target currency and notification permissions, then save the alert.

Your first target should describe a price event that you want to review. The saved amount, selected coin and repeat setting define that event. A notification gives you a reason to inspect the market when the threshold is reached.

Saving the alert or correcting the draft

Begin in the mobile app with your account signed in and notifications allowed in your device settings. Open the intended coin and use its bell control to reach the alert settings. The immediate choice is whether the displayed draft matches your intended target or needs a correction before saving.

Compare the draft against these conditions:

If the details match, select Save and inspect the alert entry. If the amount or frequency is wrong before saving, correct that field first. If you cannot confirm the saved details, pause before creating another alert; an additional entry would make it harder to distinguish the intended target. Once the entry matches, setup is complete and you can leave the alert screen.

Should I enter a target or choose a percentage?

Enter a custom target when you already know the price level; choose a preset when its calculated target matches your intention. The alert control supports a custom price input and preset percentage choices. Both options require attention to the resulting price, because that number defines the threshold.

Target entry

A specific price level

A custom amount expresses the exact level that you want to monitor in the displayed currency. Decimal placement matters: moving the decimal changes the threshold substantially. Read the complete value before saving, especially when the coin’s price contains several decimal places. A correctly typed number in the wrong currency still describes the wrong target.

A preset percentage

A preset provides a shortcut to a target calculation. Inspect the price that it places in the alert control, rather than remembering only the percentage label. The saved threshold is the useful record for later comparison. Selecting a percentage does not by itself establish a continuously moving target.

Direction relative to the displayed price

A target above the displayed price represents an upward move; a target below it represents a downward move. That relationship helps reveal an input mistake before saving. It does not predict whether the market will reach the threshold or how long the move will take.

Keep the price that you saw during setup separate from the target that you saved. The market can move while you make the selection. A later percentage difference may therefore change even though your intended price level remains the same.

When should I choose Once instead of Recurring?

Choose Once when a single notification will complete the monitoring task; choose Recurring when later returns to the target also matter. The mobile app offers Once and Recurring settings for custom price alerts.

Notification permission and a silent phone

Notification permission affects whether the phone can present an alert, so it belongs alongside the price settings during setup. An alert entry and a visible phone notification represent different parts of the process. Saving a threshold alone does not demonstrate that your device will display the resulting message.

If a notification appears to be missing, distinguish a target problem from a delivery problem. A different coin, currency or amount changes the event being monitored. Device notification settings affect presentation instead. Check the relevant setting before changing the threshold; moving a correct target would change the question that the alert is meant to answer.

A missing message also does not establish that the tracked price reached the target. Compare the asset and currency consistently, and avoid treating a price seen elsewhere as proof of an alert failure.

The saved entry and the received message

The saved entry records your monitoring instruction, while a received message shows that a notification reached you. Keep those observations separate when assessing whether setup worked. A screenshot or note of the coin, target currency, amount and repeat setting can help explain a mismatch later. Capture only the relevant details if you need to share the record for troubleshooting, rather than including unrelated account or portfolio information.

Why did I receive an alert for a different price?

A notification at an unexpected price may belong to Auto Price Alerts rather than your custom threshold. With the relevant settings enabled, selecting a coin in search can subscribe you to notifications about major movements. Those messages serve a different purpose from a manually chosen price target. Read the message before concluding that your saved amount changed. Auto Price Alerts has its own control in the app’s Notification Center.

Price checks after a notification

A triggered alert points to a price event, and the next decision depends on the market information available when you open it. Coingecko calculates its published coin price using a volume-weighted average of exchange prices. A quotation on one exchange can differ from that aggregated figure. Keep the same currency in view when comparing them.

The notification price also describes an event that has already occurred. The price may have moved again by the time you read the message. Review the displayed market price before deciding whether the threshold still deserves attention. For continued monitoring, decide whether the same level remains useful or whether your next alert should answer a different price question.

Details worth knowing about Coingecko

Is a paid subscription required for a custom price alert?

Custom price alerts are available through the free app. You need an account for the alert setup, but a paid API subscription is not part of that workflow. The target and frequency settings belong to the consumer alert feature.

Can I set a price target from the website?

The Coingecko website supports price-alert setup through the coin’s alarm control. That control offers a custom amount or preset percentage. The mobile app provides the documented push-notification workflow, so arranging a target on the website should not be treated as confirmation that desktop browser notifications are active.

Do I need to record a purchase before creating an alert?

You do not need to enter a purchase transaction to set a price alert. An alert monitors the selected coin’s price threshold, while purchase records support portfolio calculations. Adding a coin to a tracking list does not mean that you own it or have entered a cost basis.

Does setting an app alert require an API key?

Setting an alert through the app does not require an API key. The app provides its own target and notification controls. API credentials apply to programmatic data access, which is a separate task from saving a personal price alert.

How does an NFT floor-price alert differ from a coin-price alert?

An NFT floor-price alert monitors a collection’s floor price, while a coin-price alert monitors the selected cryptocurrency’s price. The NFT alert control also supports a target and repeat setting. A collection floor does not establish the value or achievable sale price of every individual NFT.
